Beware Ladies: Here Are the Jobs With the Worst Gender Pay Gaps
Finance| | By Lauren Boudreau
It’s a pretty basic thing to want to have equal pay for equal work, but sadly, the U.S. is not there yet.
Women still get paid 78 percent of what a man earns, according to a document released by the White House about equal pay last year. For women of color, it’s even worse, with Hispanic women getting paid just 54 percent of that of a white man, and African American women earning 63 percent of the average white male.
The situation has gotten better though. Since 1974, women on average have been able to close the gap by 20 percent.
Many celebrities have voiced concern over the issue, most notably Jennifer Lawrence when she penned an open letter for Lena Dunham’s newsletter Lenny. Even Bradly Cooper said he would help fight the wage gap by negotiating salaries alongside his female co-stars.
Some say education is the key to solving the problem, but as AAUW reports, the pay gap still exists between men and women at each academic level.
So while we’re all trying to figure out how to fix the pay gap, here are some jobs you might want to avoid in the meantime.
