On Wednesday, Warner Brothers premiered a brand new trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter-spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Watch below:
The trailer, which debuted first on the official YouTube channel of The Ellen Show, provides the most detailed look yet at the plot of the film, written by series creator J.K. Rowling, and loosely based on a previously released reference book of the same name.
The movie revolves around Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), an English wizard and “magizoologist,” whose animals escape while he’s visiting the United States in the 1920s. This leads to a conflict between the magical and non-magical (called no-maj in the U.S.) communities. The trailer delivers many references and callbacks to familiar die-hard Potter fans, but certainly with an American spin.
In addition to the trailer, the studio released a brand new poster as well.
The official synopsis for the film reads:
“The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by Rowling and directed by Potter veteran David Yates, hits theaters on November 18.
In addition to Redmayne, the film stars Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, and Colin Farrell.
